With roll out of 3G guidelines in June 2008 as committed by Union Communication & IT Minister, on Friday, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has geared up for next generation network to connect rural India with wireless communication linkages to provide broadband access initially to 23,000 district headquarters, panchayats etc. in 2008-09, its CMD, Mr. Kuldeep Goyal announced here today.
Speaking on the 2nd day ASSOCHAM organized Global Telecom Summit, Mr. Goyal said that BSNL would provide broadband linkages by going for next generation network from moving on equipment driven technology to software driven technology.
The next generation network would first be laid to all district headquarters, panchayats and thereafter to district boards and zila parishads and over 6 lakh villages across the country, he informed.
The BSNL would also provide broadband facilities through fiber lines and also complete voice over internet protocol (VoIP) by 2015 and quickly adopt 3G networks to provide telecommunication linkages to entire country.
Mr. Goyal also said that Nigam would also adopt WiMax facilities with the introduction of 3G services. The Chairman BSNL also promised that his Nigam swould be able to meet all its commitments for 2010 target laid out for it by the Deptt. of Telecom under Ministry of Communication & IT.
According to him, the next challenge for the Nigam would be to further reduce the telecom cost by extending telecom linkages at war footing for which the intensive efforts are being made within the organization in consultation with other relevant departments as per the commitment given to people by UPA government.
